About

The Clearwater Swim Club was once here. According to Web information, Bruce Springsteen played at the swim club when he was with the Steel Mill band on 6/22/70 (rescheduled from 6/21). He and Steel Mill played here again on 9/11/70 in a show that turned into a police riot. There is much about it on the Web. I learned of it through the great book, "Bruce," by Peter Ames Carlin, at pp. 76-83. What a night!
How this site went from swim club to park and senior residences can be found at http://ind.gmnews.com/news/2001-10-31/Bulletin_Board/037.html.

Southside Johnny was guest DJ on EStreet Radio yesterday, and he spoke about being at the show with the riot. He said he thought it was in Rumson, which is apparently about three miles away from this location. Maybe Rumson police cover this area.

The riot is mentioned in an article on how often Mr. Springsteen played Monmouth University (then, College) at https://www.newspapers.com/image/259962120/. There are quite a few newspaper accounts at newspapers.com for Sept. 12 thru 16, 1970, for the 9/11 show. They also confirm that the 6/21/70 show was rained out and went off on 6/22.
