About

The cruise ship S.S. Morro was beached 100 feet from this building after catching fire on 9/8/34. 137 people died. These is a real plaque at a monument on the south side of the building.
People from all over went to Asbury Park to see the 11,520 ton ship on the beach. I knew someone from South Philly who went. It is said that the police chief invented one-way streets to control all the traffic.
You can find a video online of Jim Morrison and the Doors walking around outside of this building.

There is a youtube video of a segment of Bruce Springsteen giving Matt Lauer a tour of Asbury Park, and Bruce said that bands that played the Convention Hall included the Who, Rolling Stones, and Janis Joplin, and that he and Patti (wife Patti Scialfa) saw the Doors there. They must have gone separately as it does not appear that they knew each other then. Springsteen himself has played the Convention Hall.

See the entry on Cyber Plaque about 19-year-old Bruce Springsteen spurning Janis Joplin's sexual advances at the Asbury Park Convention Hall.
