When this building opened on April 24, 1913, it, at 792 feet, was the tallest structure in the world except for the Eiffel Tower. On opening day, a clergyman gave the building its nickname, the "Cathedral of Commerce." This information is from the F.Y.I. column in yesterday's New York Times, at Metropolitan p. 4.
