There have been archeological probes in this parking lot along the waterfront, which once belonged to Hertz, because it appears to be the site of a shipyard from 1686 to the early 19th century. Archeologist Tim Mancl, of John Milner Associates, has been digging here. Archeologists are hoping to find the old Penny Pot Tavern, but so far they have had no luck. See the Philadelphia Inquirer, 7/28/12, at B2.
